Discussion on sampling and detection methods for chromium and its compounds in workplace air of electroplating enterprise

Abstract: [Objective] By comparing the different methods for sampling and detection,to analyze the whether the abnormal results of nasal examination the electroplating workers are caused by the detection methods when the concentrations of chromium and its compounds are low or not detected in workplace air.[Methods] 6 chrome plating points were selected in 6 electroplating enterprise.The sampling and detection were performed by using different methods.[Results] The detection rate of individual sampling (46.15%) was higher than that of the second-type short time-sampling (8.33%),and the difference was statistically significant (calibration P=0.0037,P<0.05).The detection rate of the first-type and second-type short-time sampling was 0 and 8.33%,which did not meet the requirements of statistical analysis.[Conclusion] When the concentration of chromium and its compounds in the workplace air is very low,it cannot be assumed which short-time sampling method is more reliable.It is proposed that the sampling of chromium and its compounds in the air of workplace should be mainly based on individual sampling or long-time sampling.
