Abstract: This study investigated the ribosome genotyping and antimicrobial resistance in Enterococcusfaecalis strains which was isolated from two large-scale farms in Shanghai.Fourty isolates were evaluated for their sensitivity to twelve antimicrobial agents by broth microdilution, and the ribosome genotyping (ribotype) was characterized by the Riboprinter(R) Microbial Characterization System. The resistance rates against antimicrobial drugs were relatively high and multidrug resistant strains were detected with more than 80%.Four strains of Enterococcus faecalis isolated from pigs were resistant to vancomycin, among which two strains were highly resistant to vancomycin (MIC > 64mg/L) and at the same time highly resistant to gentamicin and streptomycin (MIC >2,048mg/L).This study showed that multidrug resistance of Enterococcusfaecalis was a serious issue, and the resistant phenotypes of the same type of ribotype were not entirely consistent.
