The serotype and pathogenicity of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from mink in Shandong region

Abstract: To understand the serological distribution of Pseudomonas aeruginosa of farmed mink in Shandong region, a total of 53 P. aeruginosa were isolated from 77 farmed mink lung tissue samples collected from 18 different areas. These isolates were tested by biochemistry, molecular biology, serology, growth kinetics and the median lethal dose (LD50). The results showed that the 53 isolates were P. aeruginosa and belonged to 11 serotypes, including 27 of G serotype, 5 of B serotype, 4 of D serotype and therest of other serotypes, respectively. The isolates of SD004 (G-type), SD050 (B-type) and SD052 (D-type) were virulent P. aeruginosaand the LD50 in mice was 1.99×1010 cfu, 2.51×1010 cfu, 5.62×1010 cfu, respectively. This study provided the experimental data for choosing candidate strains of farmed mink hemorrhagic pneumonia for developing or preparing the inactivated vaccine against P. aeruginosa infection in farmed mink.
