An improved image defogging algorithm based on dark channel prior

Abstract: To guarantee the all?weather operation of the visual system, a defogging algorithm was proposed based on the atmospheric scattering model and dark channel prior principle. After obtaining a transmittivity drawing by the improved minimum filter, the Halo effect and blocking effect caused by sole use of the minimum filter were con?strained, and therefore overcoming the defect of low image detail remaining degree of the median filter in the double area filter. The effective guided filter was used to process the transmittivity drawing in detail. Based on image seg?mentation, the skylight was newly defined, so as to make the recovered image more approximate to the actual scene. The experimental results show that, the algorithm in this paper effectively recovers the color and contrast of the scene, apparently improving the visibility of image.
