Abstract: For a further discussion of the architectural heritages combined the Chinese and Western elements from the perspective of architectural translatability, this article attempts to scrutinize and analyze Liang Sicheng’s theory of “architectural translation”. By means of reading and organizing Liang’s treatises and articles in 1950s, it could conclude that the idea of architectural translatability could be motivated by the desire and practice of learning from the Soviet Union. And at this time Li-ang’s theory of “architectural translation” included the translation of both “vocabulary” and “grammar” which is the principle and method of application of the “vocabulary” of Chinese architecuture. Meanwhile, Liang’s theory of “architectural translation” had a fundamental inlfuence to his architectural design.
