Abstract: Vimalakīrti Buddhist Story Painting was not only the localization of Buddhist art, but also the popular Buddhism images in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. Compare to the images in the 5th century, the style of Vimalakīrti Buddhist Story Painting had been changed clearly in early 6th century, such as the sinicization of Vimalakīrti’s looking, the appearances of Chinese table and cushions and the enrichment of story painting’s details, etc. The article suggests that the changing might inspired by Buddhism images of the Southern Dynasty.
