Dynamics Changes and Driving Forces Analysis of Otindag Sandy Land Based on Logistic Regression Model

Abstract: Understanding the dynamic trends of sandy land and the influences of climate and socio-economic factors to the sandy land is the precondition of sandy land protecting and managing.In current study,the Landsat sensing images in the summer of 1994,2001 and 2014were used and the dynamic change process and driving forces of Otindag sandy land was analyzed by GIS and Logistic regression model.The results indicated that from 1994 to 2001,the change rates of fixed sandy land and wetlands were-2.61% and-0.75%,while the semi-fixed sandy land and bare sandy land were 5.54% and 18.83%,which showed a degenerating trend.The primary driving factors of fixed sandy land degradation were precipitation and grazing intensity with the contribution rate of Logistic regression being 51.31 and 24.22,while the primary driving factors of bare sandy land increasing were grazing intensity and temperature with the contribution rate of Logistic regression being 29.45 and 38.76.The decreasing of wetlands were influenced by primary industry,with the contribution rate of Logistic regression being 40.90.From the year 2001 to 2014,the change rates of fixed sandy land and semi-fixed sandy land were 0.36%and 1.23%,while the rates of bare sandy land and wetlands were-4.56%and-1.20%,which showed a recovering trend.The control of grazing intensity and governance played an important role in the increasing of fixed sandy land and the decreasing of bare sandy land.The decreasing of wetlands was influenced by wind speed and temperature along with human grazing.Overall,the impact of grazing on sandy land was a major and long-standing factor.To improve the sandy land,government policies such as forage-livestock balance should be continued.
