Abstract: The basic principle of shear strength reduction method is introduced. Factors influencing the stability of embankment slopes are analyzed by strength reduction FEM based on ABAQUS. The influencing factors are studied include the cohesion,internal friction angle,specific weight,elastic modulus and Poisson ratio of the soil. The results indicate that the cohesion and the internal friction have the most effect on slope stability,and influence of the specific weight of soil is relatively smaller,the elastic modulus and Poisson ratio have no effect on the stability of slope and Poisson ratio has a huge effect on the plastic zone of slope.
