Abstract: The Xi’an Incident dealt a severe blow to Chiang Kai-shek’s image as the national leader in domestic public and international public opinion. By manipulating the writing of Half a Month in Xi’an,personally revising the manuscript of the book, and promoting the published book,Chiang Kai-shek glossed over the unfavorable facts in the incident, exaggerated his experience during the incident, and concealed certain key facts, thereby restoring his tarnished image as the national leader. Through the use of this propaganda strategy,Chiang Kai- shek restored his reputation and regained public support for his military leadership in the war with Japan.
