Abstract: The adjustment of textbooks’ difficulty is the preferred way to improve the teaching quality and to reduce heavy assignments for students. Analyzing the rationality of the concept of textbooks’ difficulty is the premise for deeply revealing the connotation of textbooks’ difficulty and scientifically adjusting it. The concept of difficulty is mainly subjective. The concept of textbooks’ difficulty is rational because textbooks, as artifacts, combine the materialness and conceptual properties, comprehensively represent the commonly accepted human modes of action, needs and intentions in the practice with textbooks’ creation and use, and can represent the integrated generalization state of the process of relevant persons’ practice to achieve a specific purposes by creating or using textbooks.
