Effects of laser beam incident ways on weld appearance of 7A52 aluminum alloy

Abstract: The weld experiment of 10 mm thick 7A52 aluminum alloy had carried out using the two ways of laser beam inclination forward and backward by the 5 k W fiber laser. The effect of laser beam inclination way on aluminum alloy weld appearance were investigated. The weld surface shape, the weld cross-sectional shape and the weld internal porosity conditions between different laser beam inclination way were compared. The flow behavior of the melt pool during the welding process was discussed. The results revealed that the stability of melt pool on the laser forward way was better than the laser backward one. The weld seam with better surface formation, bigger aspect ratio, and less internal porosity was obtained under the laser forward way. Therefore, the accepted weld was obtained under the laser forward way with the same welding conditions.
