Abstract: Objective To investigate the etiology and clinical features of recurrent acute pancreatitis(RAP). Methods A total of 887 AP patients were enrolled.Of whom,124 were RAP,and 763 were single AP(SAP).Using a computer random sampling method,247 cases of SAP were selected to be served as SAP control group. The clinical data of patients in the two groups were analyzed. Results In the SAP group,142 were male and 105,in RAP group,78 were male and 46 were female, the difference in gender between the two groups was not significant(P>0.05).The age of patients in RAP group was younger than those in the SAP group, the difference being statistically significant(t=3.792,P<0.05).Compared with the SAP group, the length of hospital stay in RAP patients prolonged, the level of triacylglycerol elevated and complications increased(t=4.842,3.923;χ~2=17.74,P<0.05).The causes of RAP were as follows:biliary(40cases),hyperlipidemia(33cases),alcoholic(12cases),binge overeating(8cases),idiopathic(22cases)and others(9cases).Logistic stepwise regression analysis indicated that only hyperlipidemia impacted the recurrence of AP. Conclusion Recurrent acute pancreatitis more commonly occurs in middle-aged men, biliary origin and hyperlipidemia being the frequently seen causes of the disease.Hyperlipidemia plays an important effect on multiple recurrence of acute pancreatitis.
