ASSOCIATION OF BIN1GENE POLYMORPHISM WITH EPISODIC MEMORY IN PATIENTS WITH MILD COGNITION IMPAIRMENT AND ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

Abstract: Objective To investigate the changes in episodic memory encoding(EME)and retrieval performance(RP),and correlation of these changes with BIN1 gene polymorphism in patients with mild cognition impairment(MCI)and patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD). Methods This study consisted of 209 normal controls(NC),119 MCI patients and 66 AD patients.Employing EME and RP test,the scores of EME,RP and reaction time were inspected in all the subjects.Applying restriction fragment length polymorphism detection method,the BIN1 gene polymorphism was detected,and its features of distribution in each group and its association with the score of episodic memory were analyzed. Results The accuracy rate of encoding in MCI and AD groups was lower than that in NC group(F=25.50;q=4.48,6.88;P<0.05),and that in AD was lower than that in MCI(q=2.63,P<0.05).Retrieval accuracy in both MCI and AD groups was lower than that in NC group(F=66.80;q=6.90,11.20;P<0.05),and that in AD was lower than that in MCI,the difference being statistically significant(q=4.79,P<0.05).The reaction time of encoding in MCI and AD groups was longer than that in NC group(F=37.10;q=5.43,8.41;P<0.05),and that in AD group was longer than that in MCI group(q=4.39,P<0.05).Reaction time of retrieval in MCI and AD was obviously extended compared with that in NC(F=80.74;q=4.48,6.88;P<0.05),and that in AD was longer than that in MCI(q=2.63,P<0.05).The difference in distibution frequency of CC,CT,TT genotype and that of C and T allele of BIN1 gene among the three groups was not significant(P>0.05).The difference in score of EME and RP of different BIN1 genotypes among the three groups was not significant(P>0.05). Conclusion BIN1 gene polymorphism has no obvious association with the onset of mild cognition impairment and Alzheimer’s disease,and different genotypes do not impact patient’s episodic memory encoding and extraction.
