Abstract: Objective To discuss the diagnosis and treatment of primary cervical lymph node tuberculosis(PCLNTB).Methods Clinical data of 39 patients with PCLNTB were retrospectively analyzed. Results All the 39 patients presented painless and tenacious cervical mass as their first symptoms.CT scans or ultrasonography revealed the mass showing only shadow of soft tissue density, which did not have specificity for the disease diagnosis. One in which showed positive acid-fast bacillus in culture of fine-needle puncture sample, five were confirmed with tuberculin test, and the remaining 28 confirmed with surgery and pathology. After a final diagnosis was made,a standard anti-tuberculosis treatment started and lasted for one year.A follow-up of more than one year showed all the operative incisions were healed primarily, and no signs of recurrence were noted. ConclusionThe onset of primary cervical lymph node tuberculosis is hidden, with no characteristic symptoms of tuberculosis such as low-grade fever and night sweat.CT scans or ultrasonography is just for differential diagnosis.Making a definite diagnosis,a needle aspiration biopsy should be the first choice, for those with unknown diagnosis, resection of the mass and sent for pathology is suggested.Systemic anti-tuberculosis therapy starts once the diagnosis is confirmed.
