Clinical Significance of Detection of Osteopontin and Eosinophil Cationic Protein in Serum of Asthmatic Children

Abstract: Objective:To discuss relationship between OPN and ECP concentrations with the severity of asthma in children and relationship between serum OPN and ECP levels in asthmatic children group by detec-tion of osteopontin (OPN)and eosinophil cationic protein (ECP)in serum of asthmatic children and normal children.Methods:Blood test on OPN and ECP values were implemented in 100 cases with asthma acute epi-sode and 40 cases of control group who were selected from the hospital on the day of admission.Results:(1) The comparison result of serum OPN and ECP level of two groups:the level of serum OPN and ECP in asth-matic groups were significantly higher than those in control group.(P <0.001);(2)The serum OPN and ECP level of asthmatic children group:For light、moderate and severe asthmatic children,the levels of serum OPN were statistically correlated insignificantly (r =0.044 ),the levels of serum ECP were statistically cor-related significantly (r =0.401,P <0.001 );(3)The correlation of ECP with OPN levels in acute asthmatic children:the ECP and OPN levels of asthmatic children were significantly correlated (r =0.669,P <0.001). Conclusion:OPN is a kind of extracellular matrix protein,which has a wide range of immune regulation role, including the regulation of IgE reaction,inflammatory cell migration,etc.ECP is a cytotoxic glycoprotein with a strongly alkaline,when eosinophils are activated,it releases particles,promoting the release of hista-mine and causing bronchial mucosal injury.Levels of serum OPN and ECP in asthmatic children were signifi-cantly higher,and the research result of their levels in serum can be guidance in the diagnosis of asthma, treatment and prognosis of children with asthma.
