Abstract: The decrease of lake area will cause the change of lake ecological environment and water type structure, lead-ing to the change of the aquatic biomass and species composition. consequently the ecosystem of the lake district func-tionally degrades. The main objective of this study was to explore the impact of human activities on lake area variations in the humid area. Based on LANDSAT TM images for the period from 1989 to 2012,this paper extracted annual water area of 8 major lakes during flood period in Wanjiang region, calculated the annual water area change information of each lake, and discussed the influence that kinds of human social and economic activities change the water area of lakes.
