Abstract: The coming of the big data has deep impact on the field of education and plays a key role in the development of college English teaching.This paper analyzes the characteristics of big data era and the challenges which the college English teaching in higher vocational colleges faces now.Then it discus-ses how English teachers respond to the challenges.Combined with the development of college English teaching,it also explores the ways to make self development for the college English teachers from the function of teachers,teaching mode,teaching evaluation,teachers'professional knowledge and academic research.
