Abstract: Armor is a kind of important protective clothing in Chinese history. The Wei Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties were a ages full of division and war, while the war factors promote the evolution of the armor and uniform. The long-term multiethnic state also gave opportunities for different kinds of folk costume to communicate and learning.Based on historical data, the burial figurines and murals, this paper analyzed and summarized the armor in the Wei Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties. The four different kinds of armors and safety protectors, Tong xiu armor, Liang dang armor and Ming guang armor are dominatly in this era. Among them, Tong xiu armor is mainly made by leather and iron, which protect more closely but have poor flexibility. Liang dang armor was widely used in the Wei Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties and also used leather or iron as material. Together with barding, Heavily-armored cavalry with armored horses had become the importent equipment of army core. Ming guang armor’s material is more well than above. After grinding process of iron, the round protective gear could be more robust and can keep much long time. Corresponding to the different parts of the body,it has corresponding part to protect, flexibility and defense force are much strong. Through research and analysis the evolution of different types of armor’s shapes, materials, protection and other features, These paper summary and overview the development process of the Wei Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties armor.
