Abstract: Only a few literatures on ancient architectural construction are available in China now. Records on architecture and construction can be found here and there in books, which are inconsistent and unsystematic. Rules on Construction, which was written in Song Dynasty, is precious for its consistent and systematic features. Examples and Methods for the Projects of the Ministry of Construction of Qing Dynasty has a detailed record for the methods of construction in Qing Dynasty. Ming Dynasty lies between these two dynasties. Principles for the Factory Warehouse Departments of the Ministry of Works reflects the mechanisms of operation and management in the Ministry of Works in Ming Dynasty. This paper tries to take it as a case study to analyze the notions of operation and management in the Ministry of construction in middle and late Ming Dynasty.
