Abstract: Keith Thomas is an acclaimed British historian as well as a leading scholar in the field of new cultural history. Many of his works, such as Religion and the Decline of Magic and Man and the Natural World are internationally well known. Keith Thomas is also well noted for his advocacy of historical anthropology as a way to update historical methodology. His study of historical anthropology, together with that of Peter Burke and Alan Mac Farlane, has helped open a new dimension to and exerted a great impact on historical study.Thomas’ historical anthropology has multiple theoretical origins. It was influenced, for instance,by British social anthropology,British Marxist History and Max Weber’s theory on modernity. Drawing on all these theories, his study is a significant contribution to historical study, despite its inherent problems.
