Abstract: The unique structure of fullerene determines its unique physical and chemical properties. The fullerene can be applied in physics, material science, chemistry, biomedical and many other fields. The solubility of C60 in polar solutions is very low, which has been the major obstacle in the development of biomedical field. Therefore improving the solubility of fullerene is of important theoretical and practical significance. The fullerene derivative with covalenting hydroxyl and amino groups firstly was synthesized and its molecular structure was characterized by FT-IR,TG,XPS and elemental analysis. The protective effects of fullerene nanomaterials as the inhibitors of reactive oxygen species(antioxidants and free radical scavengers)were investigated. It was demonstrated that it could reduce H2O2-induced cytotoxicity and free radical formation in vitro by using HeLa cell. These nanomaterials had great potential applications in biomedical field.A molecular basis of the diseases for which oxidative stress may play a key role was provided.
