Abstract: The progress on biomass pyrolysis technology was reviewed. The pyrolysis reactor, pyrolysis performance, industry scale units and commercial development were introduced in detail. The feasibility of biomass pyrolysis bio-char as fertilizers for soil amendment and carbon sequestration was discussed. Biomass pyrolysis bio-char as soil fertilizer can realize the carbon sequestration for thousands of years. It also promoted the crops production and increased the CO2 capture capacity. Biomass pyrolysis technology can realize the Gt-scale capacity of CO2 sequestration. The uncultivated land should be explored in order to increase the capacity of CO2 sequestration with large scale.
