Synthesis, Characterization and Performance Assessment of Pt/Mesoporous Carbon Catalysts

Abstract: Different Pt loading (1.5%, 2.0%, 3.0%) catalysts with ordered mesoporous carbon CMK-3 as supports were prepared by ethylene glycol reduction method. The XRD, BET and TEM results show that the prepared catalysts possess highly ordered mesoporous structure of initial CMK-3, and have uniform dispersion of Pt particle in the pore of CMK-3, the Pt particle size is about 5 nm. The catalytic activity of the catalysts were evaluated by naphthalene hydrogenation. The optimum reaction conditions are as follows: reaction temperature 280℃, reaction H2 pressure 3 MPa, hydrogen/oil ratio 500 and mass space velocity 2 h-1. Both the naphthalene conversion and decahydronaphthalene selectivity of Pt(2%)/CMK-3 are all over 98%.This catalyst has the potential applied value in removing arene from petroleum products.
