Abstract: In order to estimate the source of Xiyao Lake surface soil pollen,surface soil and moss polsters from Xishan,Nanchang,Jiangxi Province,East China were chosen to interpret the relationship between pollen assemblages and vegetation by pollen analysis.The experiment indicats that the pollen assemblages can properly reflect the local vegetation in Xishan district to some extent.Swamp surface samples can reflect regional vegetation more than other samples due to convergence of the swamps.Among the main pollen taxa of swamp surface zone,Pinus and Artemisia are over-representative,which are from Xishan district and the eastern monsoon region.Cunninghamiaand Euphorbiaceae have suitable representativeness,which mostly come from the vegetation in the surrounding mountains.Cyperaceae originate from the vegetation in the swamp.Poaceae can partly reflect the vegetation,whose sources are relatively obscure.In terms of pollen data analysis,pine and cedar forests cannot be differentiated obviously while other zones are divided clearly through cluster analysis.According to the principal component analysis,the major factor of pollen assemblages is humidity and the minor one is human activities.
