Abstract: So far an accuracy system for detecting methane emission of ruminants has not been established, be?cause the common measurements need more improvements, and the detector is easily affected by some environ?mental factors, thus hard to guarantee its sensitivity and accuracy. Infrared spectroscopy techniques have been largely applied in detecting methane emission of ruminants, and some new techniques based on Infrared spec?troscopy, such as laser methane detector ( LMD) , Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy detector ( FTIR) , GreenFeed ( GF) system and portable auto?open circuit gas quantification system ( GQS ) , are also widely used. Compared with common measurements, infrared spectroscopy techniques have convinces in monitoring enteric methane emission. This paper, based on the existing references, summarized the research status and prospect applications of infrared spectroscopy in detecting methane emission of ruminants, and aimed to provide further references for precisely monitor methane emission of ruminants.
