Abstract: Early in the 20th century, the imperialist powers like Japan and Russia brought the colonial features into China through unequal treaties and other means, which brought about dramatic changes in urban development and landscape in the region. The Chinese Eastern Railroad China was the result of imperialist powers’ invasion into northeast China. Its construction and operation brought about great changes in the dynamic mechanism of the urban development in northeast China. The railroad had profound impact on the spatial distribution and urban landscape of northeast cities, laying a pattern for the urban development in the region in 20th century.
