Retrospective analysis of 150 children with lobar pneumonia

Abstract: Objective To summarize the clinical characteristics, etiology changes and treatment outcomes for the children with lobar pneumonia. Methods Retrospective study method was used and 150 cases were collected in the Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, during January 2009 to December 2014. Results In this survey, 150 cases with lobar pneumonia accounted for 2.68% of the hospitalized children with pneumonia. These cases included 89 male and 61 female, and the ratio of male to female was 1.46:1. The ages are from 35 days to 14 years old, with an average of 5.47±3.28 years old, 3~years old group account for 62 cases(41.3%).The clinical manifestations were mainly fever(92.0%) and cough(94.7%), consolidation of lung was rare to be seen. Pathogen spectrum showed that the rate of the mycoplasma antibody positive was 34.0%, and the rate of chlamydia antibody positive was 16.7%, and the rate of both positive was 9.30% And the fungal infection were found in 5 cases(3.3%), bacteriological examination positive rate is low(3 cases).Chest X-ray examination showed unilateral lesions in 123 cases(82.0%), bilateral lesions in 27 cases(18.0%), right lung in 85 cases(56.7%), left lung in 38 cases(25.3%), of which in the right upper lung in 32 cases(21.3%). Fiberoptic bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage were performed in 38 cases. The results showed that bronchoscopy bronchoalveolar lavage treatment can shorten the fever duration after admission. Conclusion 1.Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia pneumoniae were the main pathogens of children’s lobar pneumonia. 2.The clinical manifestations of the children with lobar pneumonia is atypical and bronchoalveolar lavage is helpful to the recovery.
