Abstract: AIM To observe the effects of Naodekang pills on massive cerebral infarction with swelling patients after decompressive craniectomy. METHODS One hundred and twelve patients with massive cerebral infarction with swelling after decompressive craniectomy were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 56 patients in each group. The patients in the control group were given routine treatment such as dehydration, trophic nerve. On the second day after operation, the treatment group was given Naodekang pills9 g( tid) with oral or nasal feeding on the basis of routine treatment for 8 weeks. Glasgow outcome scale(GOS), National Institute of health stroke scale(NIHSS) and mini- mental state examination(MMSE) scores were assessed, and liver and kidney functions were tested after 12 weeks. RESULTS There were 44 patients(79%) in the treatment group with good recovery and moderate disability, which were significantly better than the control group(P < 0.05). NIHSS and MMSE scores of the treatment group were significantly better than the control group( P < 0.05). There were no significant difference between the two group in liver and kidney functions before and after the treatment( P > 0.05). CONCLUSION Taking Naodekang pills in patients with massive cerebral infarction with swelling after operation can obviously improve the prognosis, the daily life ability, neural function and recovery of mental state. There were no obvious side effects in liver and kidney functions.
