Abstract: At the time of Northern Wei Dynasty, temporary Chijie(to hold the imperial insignia and serve as a diplomatic envoy)in important social activities by officals who represent the emperor was a very important method in the rule of the goverment.The activities mainly include:diplomacy, comfort,making an inspection tour and military activities,ceremonies and so on. There are three kind of significance of temporary Chijie. First of all,officers participating in these activities represent the will of the emperor from the perspective of country and imperial. Secondly,temporary Chijie can significantly increase the importance of the activity from the perspective of the activity its own. Lastly,from the perspective of the officers own,participation in these activities is an important opportunity to improve.
