Modification of Electrodeposited Black-Nickel Coatings with Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract: The composite coatings,consisting of the black nickel and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(NWCNTs),were synthesized by electrodeposition on substrate of titanium alloy.The impact of the deposition conditions,including but not limited to the content and properties of MWCNTs,current density and deposition time,onthe microstructures,properties and interfacial adhesion of the coatings was investigated with scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectroscopy and electrochemical test station.The results show that an addition of the NWCNTs significantly affects the microstructures and properties of the black nickel coatings.To be specific,an addition of SWCNTs increased the thickness,surface roughness,porosity,corrosion resistance and interfacial adhesion of the coatings.In addition,the doping of MWCNTs strongly affects the electrochemical behavior of the coatings,such as the open-circuit potential and cyclicvoltammetry characteristics.The growth mechanisms of the composite coatings were also tentatively discussed.
