Abstract: Classification of geoparks at present is generally based on such single factors as discipline, genetic type, geological feature and function. The purposes are to meet the demand for scientific research and evaluation of tourism resources. Such a classification can hardly offer effective management of various types of geoparks with multiple properties of value. This study puts forward a new classification management mode based on the comprehensive value of national geoparks. The comprehensive value evaluation index of national geopark was established, and quantitative data of 35 national geoparks were acquired through the questionnaire and group discussion, followed by a multiple correspondence analysis for statistical processing. Finally the 35 national geoparks were grouped into 5 types, i.e., endowment type geopark, ecological type geopark, mature type geopark, balanced type geopark, and developmentoriented type geopark, which provide evidence for classified management of national geoparks in China.
