Effect of Mastoid Cavity Plombage in the Open Mastoidectomy with Tym-panoplasty on the Recovery of Physiological Function of External Meatus

Abstract: Objective To analyze and discuss the effect of mastoid cavity plombage in the open mastoidectomy with tym-panoplasty on the recovery of physiological function of external meatus. Methods 80 cases of patients with open mastoidec-tomy with tympanoplasty admitted and treated in our hospital from January 2011 to January 2015 were selected and divided into two groups with 40 cases in each, the control group were treated with open mastoidectomy in operation, the experimen-tal group were treated with mastoid cavity plombage in operation, the operative effects of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results The audition improvement rate and good rate of external meatus function in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group, (92.50%, 87.50% vs 75.00%, 72.50%), P<0.05, the average dry ear time after opera-tion and recurrence rate of otitis media in the experimental group were lower than those in the control group, [(31.22±7.04) d, 2.50% vs (42.35±8.04) d, 25.00%], P<0.05. Conclusion The application of mastoid cavity plombage in the open mas-toidectomy with tympanoplasty has a positive effect on the recovery of physiological function of external meatus of patients, which can obviously improve the audition and external meatus function, and it is worth application and promotion in clinical practice.
