Experimental study on optimized control of CPAM dosage on sludge thickening and dewatering

Abstract: This research focuses on the optimal dosage of cationic polyacrylamide(CPAM) for sludge thickening and dewatering problem. The dosage is determined by measuring the conductivity,pH,supernatant turbidity,and the volume of sludge. The experimental results show that the pH value of sludge supernatant ranges from 7.00 to 8.10 and the turbidity rises then drops to the lowest when the dosage of CPAM increases to 0.30 g/L. The results also show that the sludge supernatant conductivity follows the dosage of CPAM,and goes up to range from 220.0 μS/cm to 270.0 μS/cm when the dosage reaches 0.30 g/L,which will not cause secondary pollution. Furthermore,the volume of sludge cake will be in dense condition and smallest volume. Therefore,the optimal mass concentration of CPAM is 0.30 g/L.
