Abstract: Cucurbitadienol a cucurbitane-type tetracyclic triterpenoid,has been isolated from a variety of cucurbitaceae plants. The research of pharmacological activity showed that cucurbitadienol has significant anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects. Furthermore,cucurbitadienol is a key intermediate for the biosynthesis of cucurbitacins. This paper reviews the distribution of cucurbitadienol in plants and its pharmacological activities,biosynthetic pathway,gene clone and expression,analysis methods,synthesis methods,etc. Summarizing the current research status and making a prospect in development and utilization of cucurbitadienol.
