Probability distribution of irradiance fluctuation in laser atmospheric transmission

Abstract: The irradiance fluctuation caused by the atmospheric turbulence has a heavy influence on the beam quality of the laser in the applications of laser communications,laser ranging and laser guidance.The transmission of a colli-mated Gaussian beam in atmospheric turbulence under aperture averaging is simulated by the multiphase screens Fou-rier transform method.By comparing log-normal distribution,Gamma-Gamma distribution,exponentiated Weibull dis-tribution and Weibull distribution,it is found that the exponentiated Weibull distribution fits the simulation data best, and has advantages that the probability density function and cumulative distribution function are simple and the pa-rameters can be calculated by atmospheric parameters.This provides a reference for the applications of laser atmos-pheric transmission.
