Abstract: The paper systematically studies the light weight of the trolley of quayside container crane in terms of mo-dal,rigidity,and strength.The paper develops a finite element model for the trolley frame first,and performs sensitivity a-nalysis with the optimized Latin hypercube experimental design method.Eighteen variables including modal,rigidity, strength,and mass are screened based on the sensitivity analysis result.The 4-order response surface approximate model is developed.Based on the model,an overall optimization is made using Multi-Island Genetic Algorithm.The optimization re-sult shows that the mass reduces by 20.41% under the premise of meeting requirements on rigidity,strength,and modal, realizing significant optimization and light-weight purpose.
