Abstract: Objective To develop a capillary gas chromatography(GC) method for determining active components in Huoluo Oil, α- pinene, eucalyptol, camphor, menthol, methyl salicylate, cinnamic aldehyde, eugenol and thymol, thus to provide a reference for quality control of Huoluo Oil. Methods GC was applied for the quantitative analysis. GC was performed on PEG- 20 M capillary chromatographic column(30 m ×0.25 mm ×0.25 μm) by temperature- programmed manner. The initiation temperature was set at 80℃ for 3 min,the rate of temperature rising was 15℃ /minute, and final temperature was kept at 180 ℃ for 10 min. The bypass rate was 50:1, and flame ionization detector(FID) was adopted. Results The standard curve was linear for α- pinene within the ranges of0.507.54 mg·mL-1,0.517.59 mg·mL-1 for eucalyptol,0.162.44 mg·mL-1 for camphor,0.6710.01 mg·m L-1 for menthol,1.1717.54 mg·m L-1 for methyl salicylate,0.162.47 mg·m L-1 for cinnamic aldehyde,0.345.04 mg·m L-1for eugenol and 0.172.51 mg·mL-1 for thymol. The correlation coefficients of regression equation were between0.999940.99998. Conclusion The established GC is rapid, simple and accurate, and with good precision, repeatability and stability, which is suitable for the quality control of Huoluo Oil. The method can also be applied to control the quality of other herbal medicinal oil products.
