Abstract: Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics and component difference of the strain serotypesbetween local and foreign Salmonella infection patients in Changning District, Shanghai from 2010 to 2014, so as to provide theevidence for the prevention and control of Salmonella infection. Methods The data of the Salmonella positive cases inChangning District from 2010 to 2014 were collected, and then the differences in clinical characteristics and serotypes of thestrains were compared between the local and foreign patients. Results From 2010-2014, there were 8 353 diarrhea casesreported in the Enteric Diseases Clinic in Changning District, including 285 cases of Salmonella infection positive patients andamong them, 192 were local and 93 were foreign patients. Diarrhea frequency, stool property, vomit, headache, dizziness andother symptoms were significantly different between the local and foreign patients(P<0.05). The advantages of the twoserotypes were S. enteritidis and S. typhimurium in local and foreign patients, but the proportion of the serotypes was different(P<0.01). Conclusion There are differences in the disease characteristics and serotypes of Salmonella between the localand foreign patients in Changning District. Therefore, the targeted measures should be adopted in the prevention and controlmethods in order to improve the control efficacy of Salmonella infection.
