Abstract: The semantic extensions of "Sōshoku Danshi",a typical appellation in Japanese,were explored from the perspective of cognitive linguistics as well as in terms of social and cultural factors of semantic changes. It has been found that the term of "Sōshokukei "undergoes metaphoric,metonymic and synecdochic processes when it evolves"herbivores"to"men who have no interest in getting married or finding a girlfriend"semantically. As a succinct term for a popular temperament,"Sōshoku Danshi"reflects cognitive changes in the perception of society and language.
