Abstract: As one of the most famous tragedies in world literature, Shakespeare’s King Lear, since its introduction to China in1904, remains popular among the Chinese people, with continuous development in its translation, performance and criticism.This paper aims to discuss in detail the domestic criticism of King Lear before 1980 s, in the 1980 s, in the 1990 s and in the new century, analyze the various periods’ interpretation perspectives, searches for the developmental trend and illustrates the translation and performance of King Lear at home.
