Abstract: Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Ping Gan Xi Feng(to calm the liver and extinguish wind) tremor-ceasing needling method in treating essential tremor. Method Fifty patients with essential tremor were randomized into two groups, 25 cases in each group. The treatment group was intervened by Ping Gan Xi Feng tremor-ceasing needling method plus orally taking Propranolol; the control group was by orally taking Propranolol alone. The comprehensive treatment efficacy and tremor score were observed after 30 d treatment in both groups. Result The total effective rate was 92.0% in the treatment group, significantly higher than 64.0% in the control group(P<0.01); the tremor score in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05) after intervention; the adverse effect rate was markedly lower in the treatment group than that in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Ping Gan Xi Feng tremor-ceasing needling plus oral administration of Propranolol can produce a better therapeutic efficacy than using Propranolol alone in treating essential tremor.
