Abstract: The Cooperative Principle proposed by H. P. Grice was usually used to guide and explain daily communication. Translation, also known as a kind of communicative activity, is a communication across time and space between the translator and the source text author as well as the target text reader. Therefore, it can also be analyzed by Cooperative Principle too. Most of the time, translators would follow the Principle during translation, however, during advertisement translation, a typical practical translation, translators usually have to violate one or more principles so as to achieve the function and purpose of advertisements.
