Abstract: In order to explore the adaptability of melon to two kinds of coated urea in different culture media(soil and substrate), using the method of contact fertilization, a pot experiment was conducted to study therelease characteristics of sulfur coated urea(SCU) and resin coated urea(ESN) in different media and theireffects on the nutritional growth of melon. The results showed that the application of the two kinds of coatedurea with the same nutrient level in two kinds of culture media could significantly promote the growth of melon, increase the chlorophyll content, soluble protein content and root activity, and their effects were significantly higher than that of common urea. Comparing the two kinds of coated urea, the nitrogen release rate of ESN atearly stage was higher than that of SCU, therefore, the effects of ESN on the growth and physiological index ofmelon were better than that of SCU. Comparing the two kinds of culture media, the plant height, leaf area, chlorophyll content, soluble protein content and root activity in substrate with two kinds of coated urea were higher than those in soil with two kinds of coated urea.
