Ability of Daily Living among Elderly People and Its Influence Factors in Lishui City

Abstract: Objective To examine the ability of daily living (ADL) and its influencing factors of the elderly of Lishui city. Methods With cluster random sampling, 1,053 people aged 60 years completed the questionnaire survey face to face. Descriptive analysis was applied for general data and the chi-square test and logistic regression analysis for the determinants. Results A total of 637 elderly people presented normal ADL, accounting for 60.5%; 206 people with mildly impaired one, accounted for 19.6%, and 210 people with severely impaired one, accounted for 19.9%. Logistic regression showed that age, sleep quality, and hearing were the influence factors of ADL (P all <0.05). Conclusion The old people in Lishui city present poor self-care ability when compared with national norm. Advanced age, poor quality of sleep and hearing loss are the risk factors influencing the ADL for the elderly.
