Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of detaining needle placed in axillary vein in the infusion treatment in premature infants. Methods 144 premature infants delivered in our hospital between August 2014 and August 2015 were selected as the subjects and divided into the treatment group and the control group with 72 cases in each in accordance with the randomly grouping digital software. The detaining needle was placed in the veins in the limbs, scalp veins in the control group, while that was placed in axillary vein in the treatment group. The values of clinical indicators, incidence of adverse reactions and the satisfaction rate of guardian of the two groups were observed. Results The difference in the onetime success rate of puncture between the treatment group and the control group(97.2% vs 84.7%) was statistically significant,P<0.05. The difference in detaining time between the treatment group and the control group [(5.41 ± 1.19) d vs(2.09 ± 1.39) d] was statistically significant, P<0.05. The length of stay was(12.67 ± 2.84) d,(18.91 ± 2.69) d, respectively in the treatment group and the control group with statistically significant difference, P <0.05. The cost of treatment was(2261.18 ± 264.29) yuan,(3617.49 ± 274.14) yuan respectively in the treatment group and the control group with statistically significant difference, P<0.05. The incidence of adverse reactions was 7%, 23.6% respectively in the treatment group and the control group with statistically significant difference, P <0.05. The satisfaction rate of guardian was 93.1%,77.8% respectively in the treatment group and the control group with statistically significant difference, P<0.05. Conclusion For premature infants, placement of detaining needle in axillary vein can effectively improve the puncture rate, prolong the detaining time, reduce the length of stay and the cost of treatment, decrease the incidence of adverse reactions as well as increase the satisfaction rate of guardian, so it can be promoted in clinical practice.
