Computing of accommodation capacity of grid-integrated photovoltaic generation considering network’s transmission constraints

Abstract: The output of photovoltaic generation has intermittency and uncertainty and hence its grid integration brings about the big challenge to power system operation. Aiming at how to calculate accommodation capacity of large-scale grid photovoltaic generation, this paper buildsan analytical model considering network’s transmission constraints. In this model, the objective is to maximize the capacity of the integrated photovoltaic power stations, outputs of photovoltaic stations and start/stop states and output of the conventional units are defined as the decision variable and meanwhile the network transmission constraints and particular constraints of the pumped storage power stations are considered. In essence, this is a mixed-integer linear programming problem, which can be efficiently solved by CPLEX solver. The results on a provincial power grid show that this model is reasonable and the accommodation capacity of photovoltaic power stations is also affected by their locations and output coefficients.
