Abstract: Considering the interaction between overlapping and rework,the mechanisms of design activity overlapping under different circumstances were analyzed,the relationship between rework and impact factors was revealed,the equitation was given,and a method to calculate the period of design process was proposed.With attempt to minimize the design duration,genetic algorithm was applied to find the optimum overlapping rate,which was further verified by an example of the design process of general commercial building.
