Abstract: Known for its porcelain, Jingdezhen is ranked among the first-chosen Chinese national historical and cultural places. Its ceramic history of over a thousand years has left in the city numerous archeological sites of ceramic culture, including the Imperial Ceramic Plant, the Old City, the historical remains of ceramic industry, etc., which provide a substantial material record for the studies on Jingdezhen urban history, ceramic history and economic history, creating a prerequisite as well as a solid foundation for its inclusion in the national list of Chinese great historic areas. This paper describes the value, character and history of the city and proposes a scheme in accordance with Chinese great historic area conservation plan to build Jingdezhen city into a living museum of ceramic culture and industry to raise it to eminence as a porcelain city.
