Clinical Observation of Blue and Red Phototherapy Associated with Jin Capsule in the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris

Abstract: Objectives:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of mixed blue and red LED phototherapy combined with Jin Capsules and Fusidic acid cream in the treatment of acne vulgaris.Methods:One hundred and thirty three subjects with acne vulgaries were randomly assigned to two groups.All subjects were treated with Fusidic acid cream,once respectively in the morning and evening,and Jin capsule 1.05 g,twice daily.Subjects in the treatment group were instructed to perform deep facial cleansing and were treated with mixed blue and red light using LED device for 15 minutes,twice a week.Subjects in the control group were treated with medication only.Results were observed after 4weeks.Results:After four weeks treatment,the mean lesion counts were significantly reduced in both treatment group and control group,by 73.9% and 54.7%,respectively(P<0.05).Four subjects from treatment group reported to have adverse reactions including dry skin,desquamation,burning sensation and erythema,while three subjects reported to experience dry skin and desquamation.However,these undesirable effects were well tolerated by subjects.The difference is insignificant(P>0.05).Conclusion:Blue and red light LED phototherapy is an effective and safe clinical treatment for acne vulgaris with no significant short-term adverse effects.
