Synthesis, spectral properties, thermostability and quantum chemistry calculation of 4-diethylamino salicylidene Schiff bases

Abstract: Two acylhydrazone‐type Schiff bases ,2‐thiophenecarboxylic acid (4‐diethylaminosal‐icylidene)‐hydrazide (H2 L1 ) and pyridine‐4‐carboxylic acid (4‐diethylaminosalicylidene)‐hydra‐zide monohydrate (H2 L2 ? H2 O ) ,were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis , IR ,UV‐vis ,FL spectra and TGA .The results showed that both compounds could eradiate flu‐orescence with emission wavelength of 504 and 525 nm respectively .They had good thermal stability with the initial decomposition temperature of 254 and 278 ℃ ,respectively .The quan‐tum chemical calculation for H 2 L1 was performed by means of Gaussian 09 program .It shows that salicyl and acylhydrazone groups of the compound are coordination sites to metal ions .
